This oil spill is effecting pelicans, turtles, fish and whales by Louisiana's islands and marshes because it can cover their body with oil which prevents them to swim or fly thereby cutting off their ability to catch food.

The oil will effect birds because they won't be able to fly. The oil will soak them, and they'll try to clean it off. If they do that, then they'll be eating it and die. It can also make them not able to catch food, and they won't be able to eat anything except oil.
