Listen to this radio broadcast.

Read pages 166-168 in your textbook about Daphnia

Title a new page in your notebook “Daphnia.” Answer the following questions in complete sentences in your notebook. The answers are from a combination of the radio show and the textbook reading.

  1. Describe what Daphnia look like. (Use property words - size, shape, color, texture)
  2. Explain what Daphnia do.
  3. Tell where Daphnia are found.
  4. Why do Daphnia look red when they are under a lot of stress?
  5. How many genes do Daphnia have? How many genes do humans have?
  6. Why is knowing the DNA sequence of Daphnia useful?
  7. What do Daphnia eat?  Algae  Blue Green Algae
  8. How did Daphnia evolve? What genetic modifications did Daphia make in order to survive.
  9.  Read page 165 about Charles Darwin and Theory of Evolution. How is the story about the Daphnia an example of evolution. 
  10. Determine which organism card and picture is of Daphnia on pages 6-13 in your notebook. Complete the boxes in your organism chart for Daphnia.
INQUIRY 16.1 and 16.2. Read instructions before looking at live Daphnia under the microscope. Answer all questions and do all drawings in your notebook.
